Asbestos Consultancy

ADF Environmental provide asbestos consultancy and management to ensure compliance with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. These regulations were introduced by The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to help reduce the number of deaths caused by asbestos exposure and associated diseases. The regulations place responsibilities upon employers, employees and duty holders to correctly manage asbestos in non-domestic premises and to control exposure to asbestos materials. Here at ADF Environmental, we have over 25 years experience in asbestos management and assisting a vast number of customers with their asbestos needs. From identification and recommendation to removal and remediation we are able to offer a full compliance solution.

Asbestos Surveying

The importation, supply and use of all asbestos was banned in the UK in 1999. Prior to this, asbestos was used in a wide variety of products and items in Industrial, Commercial and Domestic properties. In order to comply with The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and fulfill your duty to manage asbestos, you must firstly locate where the asbestos is present within these buildings which were constructed pre-2000. This is achieved by the completion of an asbestos survey. The types of survey available are as follows:

Management Survey – The purpose of a management survey is to identify and locate asbestos containing materials which are accessible during normal building occupancy and general / routine maintenance. This is the standard survey which should be used to assess and manage asbestos containing materials in the premises.
Refurbishment / Demolition Survey – A Refurbishment / Demolition Survey is a fully intrusive type survey required a prior to any work which is due to affect the structure or fabric of the building. Examples of these works may include replacement of services, re-modelling, general refurbishment and / or demolition etc. The purpose of this survey is to locate all asbestos containing materials which may be affected by the proposed building work. A specification and action plan can then be devised to ensure that no asbestos materials are disturbed during these works.
Re-inspection Survey – A re-inspection survey is used to regularly monitor and assess the condition of asbestos containing materials present in buildings. Over time, ACM’s can degenerate or be accidentally damaged, causing the level of risk to change. Using the information contained within the buildings’ asbestos management survey; updates are made to the information to ensure that the materials can be correctly managed. The frequency of inspection will depend on the location of the asbestos materials and other factors which could affect their condition, including any significant events or changes; however, a minimum 12 monthly inspection is recommended as part of your management plan.

Here at ADF Environmental, our team of experienced surveyors all hold the BOHS P402 (Surveying and Sampling Strategies for Asbestos in Buildings) Certificate and all surveys are undertaken in accordance with HSG264 – The Survey Guide. We work closely with our customers to deliver strategic long-term plans for their property portfolio, whether for acquisitions, refurbishment and demolition projects, or simply to manage compliance on an ongoing basis.

Asbestos Removal

Asbestos containing items are usually managed in buildings by ensuring that the materials are kept in a good, well maintained condition. However; when these items become damaged, or they are to be affected by upcoming refurbishment / demolition projects remediation or removal of the items may be required. Here at ADF Environmental, we are able to assist with all aspects of asbestos abatement from small scale non-licensed asbestos remediation to large scale notifiable removal projects. Our team of in-house UKATA CAT B certified operatives are trained in assisting with non-licensed asbestos abatement works and we work closely with a number of licensed asbestos removal contractors to ensure that your licensed asbestos abatement works are fully managed from start to finish.

Water Hygene

In order to comply with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Approved Code of Practice L8 (Legionnaires’ Disease, The control of Legionella bacteria in water systems) and the associated guidance document HSG 274, companies are under a legal obligation to minimise and control the risk of legionellosis by:

Identifying and assessing the sources of risk of exposure – This is achieved by the completion of a Legionella Risk Assessment which is undertaken by a trained and competent person.
Implementing and managing precautions – Any issues or recommendations which are identified in the Legionella Risk Assessment are to be followed and completed.
Recording all related actions – A record must be kept of any works carried out on your water system by you or an appointed contractor. This also includes records of the periodic control measures in a site logbook.
